HOPE STILL PERSISTS : My English translation of Hindi Poem UMEED ABHI BAKI HAI by Dr. Kusum Dogra

 HOPE STILL PERSISTS

**********************

Enchanting view of dusky evening

And flock of birds in sky

kindles a hope

That immigrants will come back to home

Who had departed in autumn

From threshold of their abode

Hope that was about to extinct by sunset

Enchanting view of dusky evening

Kindles a lamp of hope again

And flock of birds in sky

Diffuses light

In extinguishing flames

In uprising waves

In  dancing  anklet

Breaths that were sinking

Awakens in them desire for survival

Enchanting view of dusky evening

And flock of birds in sky

Replaces with satiety....

Desperation of a bride

Jingling of bangles

*Gajra decorated with flowers

Because beloved who was in journey since morning

Has made up his mind to come back.

Gajra: flower garland that is worn by South Asian women during festive occasions, weddings, or as part of everyday traditional attire.

  1. Hopes are ropes to swing into future plans. Heart touching poem of soul felt expressions in prospect of return of immigrants to other nations to their native home country, composed in dusky evening environment with flocks of birds flying back to homes/ nests. The hopes arise and persist in next of kin in concerned home to unite with departed one.
