Connection with Roots

Connection with Roots

 Dwelling in city

Apprehension of wilderness

Still in heart persist

Reveries of village

With its beautiful dwellings

Cool

Rustling breeze

Cuckooing of Nightingale

In grooves

Pure, cool water

In rivers

With a murmuring flow

Heart gets eager

Reviving these memories.

Lentils boiled on

On low fire of

Earthen stove

Fluffy flatbread

Baked on burning fire-wood

Matchless aroma

Reaching nostrils

Instigated appetite

Entangled in  complications of

Urban life

Exhausted with fatigue of

Entire day

Before gulping two morsels of food

Many a times

Appetizer is needed.

Children eat

Thrusting eyes in TV

Nobody is there

To narrate them

Stories of fairyland

Air fetched from AC and cooler

Is no match for natural air

Sleeping on terrace is not possible

We fail to view twinkling of stars

And moves of the moon

While ordering food

In a posh hotel

You, still, place order for

Smoky sizzlers

* Tandoori roti

* Dal Makhani

*Dal-baati churma

*Makki ki roti

*Serson ka saag

Butter and buttermilk

Smoky Raita

You still remember

Taste of all these

Wherever, we might dwell

For earning our livelihood

Our connection with roots

Persists.

* Tandoori Roti: flat bread cooked in clay oven

* Dal Makhani:  buttery lentils

*Dal-baati churma:  a traditional Rajasthani dish that translates to lentil curry, wheat bread balls, and sweet powdered cereal

*Makki ki roti: flatbread of maize

*Serson ka saag:  mustard greens
