GIRLS GOING TO SCHOOL

 GIRLS GOING TO SCHOOL

Weight of wingy dreams

Is always light.

O! Girls

Your school bags are

So heavy

But you always

Find it light

Right from the moment of

Moving to school

Till reaching school

Instructions of your mother

Are carried on your shoulders

Due to that burden

You never raised your eyes

Moving back from

School to home

Sticks to your shoulders

Disapprobation of your teacher

She keeps on curtailing your moves

Each and every moment

Your enthusiasm to

Do something outstanding

God knows, where has it disoriented

Between school and home.

A Rajasthani poem of  literary icon Arjun Dev Charan

Translated into English by Rajni Chhabra
