SANGHMITRA RATHORE
WAITING
In wee hours
In deserted mansion
Damsel saw a radiance
An unquenched thirst
Arose in her heart
She ran madly
Her hair swaying till waist
Droplets of pearls
Started flowing from her eyes
Her soft, delicate veil
She forgot in her bed
Running, the damsel reached terrace
A pang dominated her heart
Glow of her smiling face faded
Waiting eyes, cast down
She missed him, but
He did not turn up
Was it a dream or
Some spell of illusion
Countless days
Turned into years
Tank of tears
In her eyes dried up
She has forgotten all the make-ups
Associated with auspicious days and festivals
Her bracelets have worn out
Her necklace has broken
Getting wedded in a very raw age
She had entered her new abode
Holding hand of her groom
The enchanting beauty had
Captivated her beloved
The whole day was spent
Waiting for him
With advent of night
Beloved marked his presence
Constantly viewed her
Embraced her whole-heartedly
Midnight was for unison
Damsel entered the mansion
With her rhythmical anklets
Playing merrily
She won heart of her beloved
Peacocks danced
Nightingale cuckooed in her heart
Eyes never missed a single moment of
Beholding him
In month of Sawan
Her swings touched heights
Danced merrily in Phagun
Beloved has moved abroad
Leaving her behind
With a hope for meeting again.
