Baskiyaan Fatee: Rajasthani poem by Shakuntala Sharma English version: Rajni Chhabra

BEMOANING
*************
Something has happened
With the girl
She kept shedding tears
Throughout the night
What happened with the  girl
Nobody can tell
Tears kept flowing
From eyes of the girl
Throughout the night
Under the thatched roof of hut
She slept with her
Sister-in-law
And kept shedding tears
Throughout the night
Mother-father could not know
The girl continued weeping
Throughout the night
When he listened about
This episode
He betrayed faith
The culprit got released from jail
Moved out laughing like *Ravana
The girl bathed in stream of her tears
The girl kept on crying whole night
She cried and sobbed bitterly
Her modesty was stained
Who will marry her and take her along
The girl was awake throughout the night
She bewailed bitterly
Again and again
He appeared in her vision like a Nigro
Tearing her attire
The girl bemoaned
Throughout  the night
Who can now
Tackle problem of this girl
Try to find out some solution
The girl keeps shedding tears
Throughout the night
Cries and lies awake
Who can help her
Laws made by democracy are futile
It is a false drama only
The girl rang the blues
The girl wept bitterly
The tender bud cried bitterly.

*Ravana:  a multi-headed rakshasa (demon) king of the island of Lanka, and the chief antagonist in the Hindu epic Ramayana.
