Hamara Nazaria: Hindi poem by Shakuntala Sharma English version: Rajni Chhabra

 OUR VIEWPOINT

*****************

What sort of persons are we?

What sort of persons are all of us?

We fail to peep into

Inner cores of heart of

Our little daughter

Indulged in self -playing

Hopping, jumping

She is growing

And we keep on observing her curves

And she....

She has folded her fist tightly

Holding light in her fist

We fail to observe

Heights of her mind

We view her only as a girl

How uneducated, how unsuccessful she is!

From light coming through

Creaks of closed doors

She silently

Slides out

And measures the whole sky

She unmasks our

Narrow thinking.
