Astitav : Hindi poem by Shakuntala Sharma English version: Rajni Chhabra

 IDENTITY

***********

Whenever

You greeted

Truth

Even after eating

Bitter gourds

You created

Your identity

Which was neither acceptable

To your very own

Nor to the society

Surrounding you

You were peeled untimely

With sickles of your own people

Drop by drop

Peel by peel

From your own shattered identity

You re- created yourself

More important than

Process of sculpting your identity

Is the process of removing

"Flood of sickles"

You don't have to accept defeat

Keep standing

Self-confidence in your eyes

And with firm feet

Will sway away

Will have to sway way

How long can persist

" Wicked obstacles"
