BUGACHO: RAJASTHANI POEM BY KAMANA RAJAWAT: ENGLISH TRANSLATION BY RAJNI CHHABRA

 BUGACHO

************

I have noticed

My grandma

Opening her *Bugacho

Whenever she found time

Shuffling clothes

Kept on searching for long

Then, again tied its string.

And mother, too

During dusting prior to

Festivals of Holi-Diwali

Used to open her box

For putting clothes in sun

Used to move hand on these

Very tenderly.

And me too

In days of spare time

When I relax

Open old diaries

Amba kadhi, Gaanje kee kali

I have read so many times

Still , I caress these with my eyes.

Like Ma and Grandma

Perhaps, we females

Try to search ourselves

In our own unaccomplished dreams

That we have forgotten

In complicasies of household

We have mingled ourselves

In the soil of house

Probing self is just an attempt

And a means of self-amusement.

*Bugacho: A box shaped bag of cloth, tied with string after folding.

What a beautiful way to allow your experience and emotions to be worded with such a soft touch: who knows the process, we just love morning dew.
    Hearty Congratulations
