LONGING: A RAJASTHANI POEM BY MEENAKSHI BORANA : ENGLISH TRANSLATION BY RAJNI CHHABRA

 LONGING

A wish sprouts in my heart

In this picturesque evening

To sing melodiously

Songs about my mother

Waves sway in my heart

Heart is brimmed with

So many ideas

That my eyes turn watery

Throat is choked

Voice has turned silent

So much affection has

Arisen in my heart.

Heavenly bliss on earth is

Derived from shelter in maternal home

On this earth, for children

This is the main hope of comfort

That corner of earth is desolate

Where laurels are not sung

In praise of mother

Such divine appearance of mother

Can not be elsewhere in whole universe.

Mother leaves behind

Wish of comfort for herself

Meditates

As if Heaven lands on earth

When heart is

Full of love for mother

Today, waves of new notes

Are swaying in my throat

Light of affection is

Glowing in my heart

Mother hugs me tightly

In every re-birth on earth

I wish you to be my mother

This is my only longing.
