WHEN DID I EVER FORGET? ENGLISH VERSION OF RAJASTHANI POEM OF NEELAM PAREEK TRANSLATED BY RAJNI CHHABRA

NEELAM PAREEK

 WHEN DID I EVER FORGET?

When did I ever forget

That waiting for you

Since evening till morning

My mind in awe of darkness

Those sleep devoid nights

That weaved endless dreams

I never forgot

Those dark lonely nights

Devoid of dreams

Nights with tearful eyes

Whom could I complain

Who was mine

Of whom I was hopeful

Did not turn true to my expectations

Might not get annoyed with me

This thought also scared me

Haunted me day and night

In a corner of my heart

A sapling of hope sprouted

It withered at times

And flourished at times

With shower of pretentious love

Nurtured, kept on growing into a tree

But, even till now

Not to mention of Fruit of immortality

Even fragrant flowers have not grown

Only some leaves have grown

With pointed ends

Even shade of this tree is

Meant for you only

In my share are only

Sharp thorny leaves.
