ROTI OR POEM; RAJASTHANI POEM BY SHARDA KRISHNA, TRANSLATED BY RAJNI CHHABRA
ROTI OR POEM
Both require efficiency
Minted *Chavani
Or speculative *Athanee
Qr coin of Rupee
Can not shape
Roti made by Ma
Or poetry of Kalidas
Shape of both of these
Unveils the knack
Of misguiding allusion of maker
Right from the process of
Gleaning grains of wheat
Till food served in plate
How many couplets are
Created by palms
Kneading each and every word
In accordance with dough
Chakla* Belna
Rolling board and pin
Rolling *loyee after loyee
Reflects your playfulness
Creates a harmony between
*Tava, *paraat,*chimta
And fingers, with fire
Roti put on skillet
Remains half-baked
Or baked properly
Only that much taste
Mingles in poem.

* Chavani : coin of 25 paise
* Athanee: coin of 50 paise
