FATHER: A RAJASTHANI POEM BY BHARTI PUROHIT: ENGLISH TRANSLATION BY RAJNI CHHABRA

FATHER

*********

When father was alive

 Everything was perfect

Merry-making and laughing heartily

Father boosted our will-power

 Immeasurable affection persisted

We had everything

When he was with us

Our home had identity due to him

Now, devoid of him

Home has turned into house

Words had very existence in father

Words are silent after his departure

After his ultimate departure

Innumerable books have

Lost their interpretation

We are ourselves unaware

How many unspoken words

Remained confined in heart only

And got entangled in whirlpool of heart

A deep silence has spread

In inner cores of heart

Utter silence like that of desert

A pretentious laughter

Just to make a show off

Unushered, complicated

Only memories reign in mind

Limitlessly.
