Rajasthani poems of Neelam Pareek: English translation by Rajni Chhabra

 Where Is My Sky?

****************

Maa!

You used to tell me

Daughters are like chippers

They fly away one day

But Maa

Birds fly freely

In vast sky

If I am a bird

Where is my

Share of the sky?

Sapling of Love
*************

In the desert

Scorching since year

Cloud of love
Touched a leaf-less tree
That was on verge of
Turning into a stump
With gust of wind
Touched nectar-like
Droplets of love
And sprouted
A little sapling of love

But, prior to it
That leaves of love
Flourished
On that sapling
Storm of time
Moved so ruthlessly
That it uprooted utterly
Sapling of love
Withered before maturing.

On Spinning Wheel of Heart
*************************
On the spinning wheel of heart
With cotton dipped in
Hues of sentiments
My heart delicately  keeps on
Spinning continually
Raw thread of love
Very delicate
With intricacy of breath
Keeps on weaving
Red, pink, green, yellow veils
Twinkling stars
 From sky of dreams
Are stitched on it
With thread of love
Are embroidered
Floral and leafy patterns
Wearing that odhnee
Dame forlorn in love
Daily without fail
Keeps waiting for her love
Who has settled beyond
Seven seas
Mad in his love
She does not know
When will he return
just, keeps on spinning
Cotton immersed in
Hues of sentiments.
